The objective of the State Preservation Board is to preserve and maintain the Texas Capitol, the Capitol Extension, the 1857 General Land Office Building, other designated buildings, their contents and grounds for the benefit of the citizens of Texas and its visitors. The agency also operates the Bullock Texas State History Museum, which engages visitors in the exciting and unique history of Texas. The Museum openeded April 21, 2001.

The State Preservation Board pledges to the citizens of Texas that this agency will offer courteous, professional, and ethical service to Capitol visitors, public officials, Capitol and Capitol Extension occupants, vendors and their employees, and other agency employees. We will manage the state's resources wisely and will protect the historical significance of our charge, while providing a functional environment for building occupants and an educational experience for our visitors.
