Texas State Preservation Board Announces
Completion of the Governor’s Mansion Permanent Roof Structure

Austin, TX – March 25, 2011 – The Texas State Preservation Board today achieved a major milestone on restoration of the Governor’s Mansion. The contractor, White Construction Company, completed dry-in with a permanent roof and removed the temporary roof that was constructed in September 2008 as Hurricane Ike approached Austin.

“Due to the loss of the roof and second floor ceiling structure in the June 2008 arson, temporary protection was essential,” said Dealey Herndon, project manager for the Texas Governor’s Mansion Restoration. “It helped to maintain humidity levels, avoid mold growth and protect the home from further water and weather damage. Completion of the new permanent roof is an exciting visible milestone in our work toward restoring the most historic home in Texas.”

The project is expected to be complete in late Spring 2012.
